The Photographer’s Take

I drove up to Tofino on Vancouver Island for an Instagram contest I had won, put on by Ripcurl and Later Mag. The contest was a cold water surf photography contest and the final judging was being held up in Torfino during the National Coldwater Surf Contest. I decided to go take some pictures of the surfers the next day and noticed that the surf contest was all ages including some really young kids (6 was the youngest). I had my lighting kit in my car and decided to do something fun by photographing the Groms right after they got out of the water from competing. At first I thought this was going to be easier than asking adults to take their portrait.. But turns out trying to ask stoked, sandy, eight year olds to sit still for a couple minutes as a I take their portrait was not so easy. In the end I was happy with the results and look forward to taking their portraits again when they are older.
